來這裡將近一個半月了呢
其實看起來是滿短暫的
但是 這段時間內 人際關係的變動非常大
一個星期內就可以和不熟的人變得超熟
一個星期內也可以和超熟的人變得完全搭不上話
事情變化的步調是在台灣的三四倍
常會覺得不久前才發生的事已經是很久很久以前了
song一直說他感覺他認識我已經一年那麼久

在這裡 沒有人幫我們準備食物 打點生活的一切
我們天天都要唸書跑圖書館做報告
我們沒有時間賴在沙發上看電視
我們沒有"美國時間"通勤做無意義的事
我們一直在忙
大多數的時間都和朋友在一起
一星期相處的時數大概是在台灣時一個月份那麼多
很簡單的一個道理 我們把和家人相處的時間全部犧牲掉
加倍迅速的過生活 不知道是好還是不好?!

上上星期差點整死我的economic development報告出現section 2
再度差點整死我 老師要求的數據我怎麼都找不到
自己已經找了兩三次 mike陪我去找一次 圖書館館員都出動了幫我們找
找 不 到
老師到底想怎樣?我煩惱它大概煩惱了一星期吧
有空就到圖書館去search 電腦"我的最愛"裡全是巴基斯坦的相關資料
終於
今天一上課就有人舉手發問 原來全班都找不到老師要求的東西嘛
我還以為我才大三去修大四的課 又是個呆子外國人
所以跟不上進度 但是今天聽大家的問題都跟我的差不多
美國大四生碰到的問題跟我沒什麼兩樣
一堂課是一個半小時 我們班的同學光發問就用了一個小時又十分
老師語出驚人的問我們是不是沒有做過類似的報告
大家都說沒有 他說
喔!等你們讀研究所的時候就會知道
這就是你們的生活吶

我只能說 我還真是個逆來順受的國際學生
有被耍的感覺!一直在緊張一直在擔心報告交不出來是要裝死還是怎麼辦才好
結果老師把我們當成研究生?會不會太誇張
下午圖書館裡查那份資料的大概都是我們班的同學
我認識了一個美國女生 我們一起罵老師
我以為我英文不好聽不懂老師在說什麼 其實她誤會得比我更多
mike聽到我說大家都交不出來報告還很替我開心
我釋懷了!
原來 就這是我們的生活吶...

Source of Growth and Development

The classical approach emphasized the role of capital.  You probably cannot get data on the capital stock.  You can, however, get data on investment (additions to the capital stock) and changes in output, as well as the savings rate (total savings as a proportion of GDP or GNI).  Remember, investment is part of that year’s GDP, but it will affect the following year(s) GDP.  So:

1.     Find the savings and investment rates (investment as a share of GDP).  Are the two the same?  If not, which is larger and can you explain why?

 

2.    Link the investment rate to the growth rate of total GNI.  The best way to do this is to plot both on the same graph (use Excel for this).  Explain whatever relationship you see.  If you were to believe in the Harrod/Domar model, what would be the average value of the capital output ratio over the time period you are looking at?

 

3.  Take the Lewis model approach of growth in a two-sector model.  That involves movement of labor from the rural to the urban area.  During the period you are looking at, what is the change in the composition of the population (urban and rural)?  Is this accompanied by, or caused by, a similar change in the composition of output (between primary production, or agriculture as a percent of GDP and manufacturing and services as a percent of GDP)?  You probably may have difficulty in finding the composition of GDP by function, but look for it in the World Development Indicators CD-Rom.  Is the share of wages growing faster than the growth rate of GDP (that would mean either employment is growing faster or wages are rising; the first would validate Lewis, the second probably not).  Explain the results of your analysis by linking them to the theory we studied.

4.    Get the data on income distribution over time.  Use both the Gini coefficient and the share of income going to the poorest group to describe whether the growth (or lack of it) that you have documented above has made the situation worse or better.  You can get the Gini coefficient probably in the World Development Indicators CD-Rom.  She share of the poorest groups ould be in the Development reports (World Bank) and the Human Development Report.  Get data for as many years as you can, not just from the latest publications.  Go into the library stacks to dig out the data for past years. Again, explain what you observe.
